Company History
The company was established in May 1993 by two engineers, whose aim was to provide customers with a professional design and manufacturing service, producing special purpose machines and equipment to meet the demands of the emerging high technology semiconductor and electronics industries.
Many of these early machines incorporated YAG and CO2 lasers used for marking, fine cutting, trimming and welding requiring the pick and placement of delicate semiconductor electronic components (ICs) at high speed with micron accuracy working 24/7 with outstanding reliability. The company's original incorporated name was Chess Engineering Systems Ltd. The name was chosen as it aptly portrayed the company's expertise providing Intelligent Pick and Place Handling Solutions.
Most Reliable Production Machines
Within two years Chess had become known and respected by the major semi-conductor houses in the USA, UK and Europe for building quality handling machines for ICs.
Chess was awarded the accolade of ‘Most Reliable Production Machines’ for ICs by Anolog Devices, Texas Instruments, Xilinx, Hewlett Packard, ST Microelectronics, Ericsson, Motorola and many more.
By 1996, Chess had also expanded into the Automotive and Medical Industries by providing automated assembly machines and test equipment to companies such as AB Electronics, TRW, Lucas, Pfizer, Intersurgical, and Johnson and Johnson.
Chess successfully won the project and was the only company to deliver on time and to cost
In 1997, Racal Defence persuaded Chess to bid for a Satcoms antenna positioner project as it was known that a few of the senior engineers had previous experience, having worked in the defence industry during the 1980s. Chess successfully won the project and was the only company to deliver on time and to cost. (All 50 systems are still in active operation today by British Special Forces).
Two Companies
In 2003, with the success of a number of defence projects, the company decided to separate the commercial and defence-related work into two companies, Chess Systems Ltd and Chess Dynamics Ltd.

Between 2003 and 2007, Chess Dynamics had developed an extensive range of quality, high performance military products, for communications, optical surveillance and radar positioner platforms and turntable systems used for land, sea and air applications.
Chess Dynamics today provides its customers with an impressive array of precision pan and tilt heads, multi-axis positioners, turntables and rotators. These range in size and weight from 2.5kg up to 250kg for a variety of payloads from small surveillance cameras to large 3D radar antennas weighing over 500kg.
