Fire Control Electro-Optical and Radar

Chess Dynamics electro-optical fire control systems provide 24-hour passive surveillance and target identification.

 

The electro-optical sensors consist of a mid-wave thermal imager, colour TV camera and eye safe, high repetition rate laser rangefinder. They have been selected to provide effective target detection, acquisition, tracking and recognition within the engagement of the system.

 

A key aspect of their fire control systems is the tight integration of advanced sensors. As mentioned before, this typically includes:

 

  • Electro-Optical Director (EOD): Housing the MWIR thermal imager, colour TV camera, and eye-safe laser rangefinder. This provides the 24/7 passive surveillance, target identification, and precise range data necessary for accurate targeting.
  • Radar Integration: Chess Dynamics' fire control systems can interface with the ship's radar systems to acquire initial target information and track targets, especially in adverse weather conditions where electro-optical sensors might be limited. This fusion of radar and EO data enhances overall tracking accuracy and reliability.

 

Target Tracking and Engagement Algorithms:

Our systems employ sophisticated algorithms for target tracking, including automatic tracking capabilities to reduce operator burden and maintain lock-on even with fast-moving or evasive targets. These algorithms also factor in ballistics, ship motion, and environmental conditions (like wind) to compute accurate firing solutions.

 

Threat Evaluation and Prioritization:

Modern naval environments can present multiple simultaneous threats. Chess Dynamics' fire control systems often incorporate features to aid in threat evaluation and prioritization, allowing operators to quickly identify and engage the most immediate dangers.

 

Integration with Combat Management Systems (CMS):

Seamless integration with the ship's CMS is crucial. Chess Dynamics' systems are designed to share target data, including live geo-coordinates, with the CMS, providing a comprehensive tactical picture and enabling coordinated responses with other ship systems and weapons. This integration also allows the CMS to cue the fire control system to specific targets.

 

Support for Modern Munitions:

Our latest systems, like the SeaEagle FCRO, are designed to support the engagement of modern "smart" munitions, which require precise target data for effective operation.

 

Operator Interface and Control:

The human-machine interface is a critical aspect of any fire control system. Chess Dynamics focuses on providing intuitive and user-friendly interfaces that allow operators to effectively manage the system, acquire and track targets, and initiate engagements quickly and efficiently.

 

Training and Simulation:

Chess Dynamics also provides training simulators for their fire control systems, allowing naval personnel to become proficient in their operation and maintenance in a safe and cost-effective environment.
