The trainable base, developed by Chess Dynamics, is a precision-controlled, modular platform engineered to support SEA’s decoy launcher payload. Designed for adaptability, high shock resistance and operation in harsh environments, the system delivers the precise azimuth and elevation control critical to the Ancilia system. Its robust architecture and proven performance make it ideally suited to this application, where responsiveness and reliability are critical.

The relationship between Chess Dynamics and SEA has grown steadily over recent years, built on mutual trust, technical synergy and a shared commitment to delivering operational advantage to the UK Armed Forces. This order marks a significant milestone in the relationship, reflecting SEA’s continued confidence in Chess’ technology, expertise and delivery performance.

Mark Byfield, Managing Director at Chess Dynamics, commented, “This order is not just a commercial success; it is a testament to the trust, shared values and technical alignment between our companies. In a defence landscape that demands speed, agility and collaboration, this relationship demonstrates what can be achieved when class leading UK companies work together.”

Richard Flitton, Managing Director at SEA said: “Our ability to deliver depends not only on technical excellence but also on the strength of our supply chain. By deepening our relationship with Chess Dynamics, we are reinforcing our position within the UK defence ecosystem. This collaboration ensures that critical capability is delivered with the highest levels of reliability, innovation and sovereign security. In an accelerating environment, it is these secure relationships that give us the confidence to meet our customer’s needs today and anticipate the challenges of tomorrow.”

Both Chess Dynamics and SEA are part of Cohort plc, the independent technology group. This collaboration exemplifies Cohort’s strategy of bringing together technically advanced, highly agile businesses with deep domain expertise—ensuring that customers benefit from purposeful innovation and best-in-class capabilities.

As the defence industry adapts to a new generation of threats—ranging from drone swarms to electronic warfare—collaborations like that between Chess and SEA are enabling the rapid deployment of mission-ready solutions. By aligning their specialist technologies, the companies are helping to ensure UK forces are equipped with systems that are both innovative and battle proven.
