Chess Dynamics: Investing in Future Skills

FEBRUARY 06, 2024

To celebrate National Apprenticeship week, we sat down with our latest apprentice, Lewis Walker. Lewis Walker joined Chess Dynamics on 18th September 2023, as an IT Support Apprentice. He is currently working towards his Digital Support Technician Level 3 qualification, which is an 18-month course that will conclude in April 2025.

Lewis has always had a passion for computers, and last year, he took it a step further by building his own PC. He enjoyed the process so much that he decided to pursue a career in IT. Lewis finds both IT Infrastructure and Cyber Security fascinating and hopes to work in either of these fields in the future. Once he completes his apprenticeship, he will be qualified to work as an IT Support Engineer and will have the opportunity to specialise in either Infrastructure or Security.

At Chess Dynamics, Lewis's typical workday revolves around managing the service desk. He assists with IT incidents and requests, creates accounts, and builds laptops for new employees. In addition to his daily tasks, he also completes learning assignments assigned by the college and attends lectures on Fridays. This combination of practical experience and theoretical knowledge allows him to apply what he learns in his lectures to real-world scenarios.

Lewis has said that his development has been aided by the individuals he works with at Chess. They make a fantastic team and are really helpful. He also added that everyone around site is always friendly and pleasant.

Lewis believes that apprenticeships are an excellent opportunity for individuals who are eager to start working while continuing to learn and gain qualifications. They provide a chance to explore various fields of interest, regardless of prior experience. Whether it's a niche or mainstream industry, apprenticeships offer a valuable pathway to kickstart a successful career.
